  • We (that’s Naomi, Adam, Caitlin , Ayla and Billy) are so happy to welcome you to East Thorne: our home and way of life.

East Thorne was born out of a dream and to be honest, a hint of frustration. We’d searched everywhere for a really different getaway, as a couple and a family, but never found the place we imagined. So, we decided to create that place, and one pretty huge life change later – here we are!

East Thorne is dedicated to experiecning the outdoor life without forgoing the comfort.

Whether you’re looking for a family getaway, a cosy couple’s stay or a get together with nearest and dearest, East Thorne can offer you the flexability of a 'homecooked' holiday.

It’s all about the place – stunning Cornwall. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by beautiful scenery that we are so proud to share with our guests. We are able to offer you all the charm of a Cornish coastal escpae in a beautiful countryside setting.

  • Our 5 yurts are set on strong wooden decking (so no squelchy mud underfoot!) and inside you’ll find large handmade beds, log burning stoves and snuggly blankets and furnishings. Our yurts have Electric, WIFI and refrigeration as well as its own outdoor covered kitchen with sturdy gas hob, BBQ and outside seating.

We also provide all of the practical things you need to make sure your self-catering stay is hassle-free such as pots and pans, crockery, cutlery and even herbs from our communal garden! So no need to haul all your camping paraphernalia here.

Each yurt sleeps up to 4 adults or up to a familiy of 6 (2 adults and up to 4 children) and are perrfect for couples, families and groups looking for an alterative to sterlie hotel rooms.

Our Roundhouse (sleep 2) is our 2017 'step up' addition and is set away from the rest of the site in its own private space. This is our ALL YEAR ROUND GLAMPING OPTION.

It has a quirky, modern interior that contrasts with our humble countryside setting. Expect high-end luxury with our hand chosen fixtures and fittings – think industrial chic, sumptuous fabrics, cosy wood burner and underfloor heating. The luxury fittings extend to the stylish, fully incorporated luxury en suite bathroom.

In the Roundhouse’s own private garden you’ll find your own wood-fired hot tub (round of course!), covered alfresco supper kitchen and a fire bowl for cosying up in the evenings. The larch wood Roundhouse is covered in an insualting ‘eco’ grass roof with central sky port hole for star gazing.

We have since added four more en-suite Roundhouses with hot tubs perfect for famillies, couples and groups. Two of these are pet friendly.

Guests staying in the Roundhouse are still able to access the community spirit of East Thorne and its facilities, or kick back in your own private area tucked away from the main site.

Check out the links below to our awesome partners or again, just let us know what you’d like to try and we can arrange or advise you on all the fantastic experiences.

     4 minute drive!

Our closest beach and most special place to go. Dramatic landscape, cliff front waterfalls and miles of sand and coast path to wander. Its so big you can sometimes feel likes its your own. Check the tide times as the beach disappears at high tide. There is also quite a steep walk down so may not be suitable for families with pushchairs or those less able to walk. But ALWAYS worth it. Special memories made here!!!!

    Summerleaze Beach. Bude. 5 miles

A firm favourite of ours. At the heart of Bude with lots of car parking and access to shops and amenities handy for snacks, ice cream and other beach essentials. There is also an open air sea pool which is a hit with our kids and a very sheltered bay for those starting out surfing. Try hiring a beach hut for the day and settling down to see a spectacular sun set. Gives me the ‘gooseys’.

    Crooklets Beach. Bude. 5 miles

Crooklets is the next beach along from Summerleaze, perfect for rock pooling and surfing. You can hire a beach hut here too. Rosie’s kitchen offers great beach-side snacks and the BEST HOT CHOCOLATES in Bude.

Widemouth Bay. 3 miles South of Bude.

An epic Blue Flag status beach, loads of sand, parking and beautiful views. Another firm favourite in the Black household. We like it for sunsets, late night BBQ’s and campfires on the beach. It is also very cool – lots of amazing surf means lots of amazing surfers.

All of these local beaches are lifeguarded (May-September 10am-6pm). Talk to us about which beaches allow dogs. Lots to choose from!

The word picturesque could have been invented for Clovelly! The beautiful and peaceful fishing village nestles in the cleft of a cliff and its cobbled, traffic-free main street, flanked by whitewashed, flower-bedecked cottages, leads to a small, still working, port. Although the village’s donkeys (on the way up) and sledges (on the way down!) for carrying goods are famed, no cars and steep streets make it tricky to negotiate for those less able.

The beautiful villages of Boscastle and Tintagel have something for everyone to enjoy. The nearby scenery is stunning: beaches and harbours and country lanes. The Cornish moors are all within easy reach. The villages themselves are picturesque and bustling, with delightful shops, galleries, potteries, churches and historic buildings to take in on any visit. Tintagel in particular might sound familiar, steeped as it is in Arthurian legend, while the area has also featured in drama series, Doc Martin. Why not walk between the two villages, following the South West Coast Path and stop at the farm shop for a cream tea or a spot of lunch? (Our favourite tootle!)

Bustling Padstow, with its busy harbor packed with fishing and pleasure boats, has something to offer everyone. Nicknamed ‘Padstein’ for its most famous resident, the town has, of course, great food, but also fabulous inns and lovely shops so you can browse and feast to your heart’s content. Lots to see, but lots of places to stop and rest a while, make Padstow a top spot to explore and relax for people of all ages.

    Eden Project

One for the bucket list. The world’s largest ‘greenhouse’ – welcome to the Eden Project!  Lose yourself in different habitats and you’ll find that you’re learning while you explore. And along with a great day out, Eden has some brilliant arts, music and theatre events- be sure to check what’s on for your visit!

Sometimes we all need to let off a little steam. Loads of stuff for kids and the young at heart, there is something to do come rain or shine: aerial gliding, crazy golf, trampolining, animal encounters, indoor and outdoor play areas, check out the links for our top local kids attractions.
