Double GOLD Award-winning Valleyside Escapes is a hidden gem, located in mid-Devon in the village of Bickleigh-on-Exe, close to nature but ideally positioned to explore north & south Devon. Three large safari tents provide panoramic valley views, space for children and dogs to explore & are fully equipped providing all the comforts of home. • General information

  Valleyside Escapes was honoured as the best glamping site in Devon and the South West winning gold at both the Devon Tourism and South West Tourism Excellence awards 2023-24.

  Situated in the top paddock overlooking the Exe Valley there are three fully-equipped luxury safari tents – Oak, Maple and Birch. Each tent sleeps up to six and has hot running water, electricity and Wi-Fi connectivity.
  
  Outside there is a BBQ area for creating some culinary delights and the traditional custom of marshmallow toasting. We provide paella meal kits, perfect for an alternative to a BBQ or for groups hiring all three tents. There is also an honesty shop selling snacks and drinks plus a games locker for extra entertainment.
  
  The best spot is probably a drink on the veranda overlooking the picturesque Exe Valley and you can even see a vineyard.
  
  As night time falls you can get cosy next to the wood burning stove and play games, read a book or just chill out in the lounge area.
  
  

   

• Accommodation

  There are two bedrooms in each safari tent – one king, one twin plus a king-sized cabin bed which accommodates two children or adults! Each tent has a bathroom at the rear containing a shower, toilet and sink. Bedrooms include lights for bedtime reading.
  
  

• Prices

  Our prices start from £395 for a two night weekened break in low season and mid-week rates start from £450 for a three night stay.

• Facilities

  There is a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need from pans to a cafetiere, a fridge freezer and gas hob.

  All bedding and towels are provided and there are extra blankets and hot water bottles.

  Our mediterranean-style courtyard bar is open on Friday evenings and you can buy local ales, cider and wine at other times. New for 2024 is a games room situated in the courtyard and available to use during your stay. It has a pool table, darts board, table football and retro Nintendo - something for the whole family!

  We have an honesty shop selling snacks, drinks and breakfast goods, here you will also find our games locker providing some extra entertainment!

• Things to do onsite and nearby

  For children there is a play area with bespoke mud kitchen and lots of space to run around in. We provide a complimentary children's nature activity and also host an annual children's picture competition. Adults can get competitive on the boule court. 

  Our private riverside meadow is just a couple of minute’s walk away and a great place for children to run around, complete the nature trail and burn some energy! There is a picnic area with benches right on the bank and we have also installed a fire pit so you can toast marshmallows and enjoy a sundowner here too. In the summer months it’s a great spot to paddle and for wild swimming and keep an eye out for the wildlife where kingfishers, egrets, salmon, trout and even the elusive otters can be seen.

  There is a pub on the river and bistro within a five minute walk and other country pubs a short drive away.
  
  There are many local attractions – next door is the Devon Railway Centre, Bickleigh Mill and access to the Exe Valley Way walk. A short drive takes you to two national Trust properties - Knightshayes and Killerton, Bear Town and the Bear Trail and the Grand Western Canal.
  
  Within an hour you can also reach Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks and award-winning sandy beaches on both coasts.
