Glam Camping cooking, get a Cobb on this summer
The bell tent’s up, the bunting is looking splendid and the fairy lights are twinkling in the dusk…..time to put the pizza in the oven…..
Yes, you read that correctly! Glamping HQ made a discovery last summer and we thought with the days growing longer and another summer of glam camping in our minds, it’s time to share it with you.
No matter how adventurous you can be when cooking outdoors, ultimately you’re left with either hobs or BBQs – then we discovered the Cobb cooking system and once you’ve tried it there’s no looking back.
It’s essentially a kind of kettle BBQ that can be used to cook pretty much anything you would normally cook in a cooker, using briquettes as a heat source. It actually gets so hot you can even cook a Sunday roast in it!
Using it couldn’t be simpler, place some briquettes in the container at the bottom, light, and then wait for about 20 minutes for it to be ready for cooking. We found last year that the solid fuel Cobb briquettes almost burn too hot for cooking pizza so we’ve bought some coconut briquettes that seem to do the job better.
One thing we did quickly learn, is that it’s hard to judge exactly what temperature you’re cooking at. Pulling your thermometer off the wood burner for the Glamping trip or investing in one is recommended - what great chef cooks without know the oven temperature?
There’s a whole bunch of accessories available depending on your preferred food, we invested in the griddle and think this year the kettle and frying dish will no doubt be on our shopping list, making our gas stove almost redundant. All of the bits fit into a handy carry bag, it’s normally the first thing to be packed, lightweight and simple to clean as there are no inaccessible parts where food can hide away.
Wouldn’t go Glamping without it so that pretty much sums up what we think of it, the kids love it and we’ve even taken it down the beach in the evening, as it’s so simple to setup and cook with.
If you’re looking to liven up your outdoor cooking…..go on…..get a Cobb on!
